This document applies to Microsoft(R) Windows 95, 98, Me, and XP.
This document lists dial-up networking (DUN) and Remote Access Service (RAS) error codes, and a brief description of each code.
Occasionally restarting your computer can resolve these errors. However, HP recommends using Microsoft's Knowledgebase for specific troubleshooting of these error codes.

The buffer settings (space allowed in your computer for accessing the modem) are too small. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |

Wrong information specified. The modem's serial port may have changed. |
605 |
Cannot set port information. The modem's serial port may have changed. |
606 |
The port is not connected. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |
607 |
The event is invalid. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |
608 |
The device does not exist. The modem's serial port may have changed. |

The device type does not exist. |

The buffer is invalid. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |

The route is not available. NetBIOS may not be configured or installed (NT network). |

The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access. |
634 |
Cannot register your computer on the remote network. Another computer may already be logged on using the same logon. |

The string could not be converted. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |

The request has timed out. A modem's setting may have changed without restarting Windows. |

No asynchronous net available. |
640 |
A NetBIOS error has occurred. Connection speed may be too fast for line quality. |
641 |
The server cannot allocate NetBIOS resources needed to support the client. |
642 |
One of your NetBIOS names is already registered on the remote network. Another computer may already be logged on using the same logon. |
643 |
A network adapter at the server failed. |
644 |
You will not receive network message popups. |
645 |
Internal authentication error. Require encrypted password may be set in Server Types. Hand-held device linking software may be active. |
646 |
The account is not permitted to log on at this time of day. |
647 |
The account is disabled. |

The password has expired. |
649 |
The account does not have Remote Access permission. |

The Remote Access server is not responding. |

Your modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error. Modem may been installed with a wrong .inf file. |

L2TP connection failed. Security encountered processing error with remote machine. |
